In the hopes that it may help someone else. Needless to say I contacted Onkyo and now my receiver is being sent out to Best Buy service center.

Onkyo's first response was Well long story short I just wanted to share my experience and possibly help someone else before they update to the new firmware and are down for weeks for service. I should know what the true problem is in a couple of weeks. Its just so darn coincidental that the THX modes failed after the firmware update and everything was A-Okay previously.

Crash said:. No, I wasn't able to reload the firmware. As the system recognized that I had the newest installed and the customer service said there was no way for me to reload a previous version. I didn't know how to restore defaults as this wasn't explained to me. And now looking back through the manual, I must have totally missed it but I see it plain as day now though. Quick update. This did not resolve the issue. Thanks for the suggestion. I will update when I here back from the service center.

Makes me glad I didn't dl the update. Our advice is to switch this off and leave it that way. Alternatively, you can just pretend Audyssey isn't there at all and do a manual setup; you'll miss out on some of the benefits that good auto-EQ can bring, but it might make the system easier to live with. Onkyo AVRs are known for having an exciting, visceral sound, and this model is no exception.

It cuts with precision and detail, but sometimes betrays a slightly rough edge. Image placement is terrific, with aural effects rippling around the room. Surround-sound warfare in the Band of Brothers Blu-ray, seems terrifyingly real.

We ran the AVR in a 7. The clarity and bounce is infectious. Its stereo performance is a delight, but multi-channel music also sings. The TX-NR certainly goes loud, but at high volume, with all channels driven, that rough edge comes to the fore. This is not a model that should be run hard.

Apple AirPlay may be the flavour of the month, but you'll not find it here. However iPod users can connect their device via USB -- there are extended music and video modes. You can also search for music files across a network there's no support for video or JPEG content. I should buy?

The problem is that you have to improvise a way to fix the heatsyncs on the chips so that they wouldn't move. Today I applyed some heatsyncs on my Onkyo , I first used thermic pad and then applyed the heatsync over.

After that I used a paste that after an hour becomes rock solid to fix the heatsync. Mine is called Poxilina but I don't know if it is available in other countryes. But I am shure you can find a replacement at you local hardware store. I shall upload tomorow pictures of the heatsyncs and the way they were applyed. But the main ideea is that if you allready have problems with the Onkyo receiver by problems I mean no sound in speakers , no LAN conectivity and no response when conecting USB drive in USB port , applying heatsyncs will not resolve the issue.

It also seemed to no longer power the USB port as the connected Chromecast stopped working altogether. I had bought the receiver in and never experienced any problems. Anyway, looking for a solution I happened to stumble upon this here thread. Since it was mentioned a couple of times I performed a forced system update to the same most recent firmware version using the USB port.

Et voila, everything back to normal! I'm still puzzled as to how this happened out of the blue in the first place but obviously very happy with the easy fix. Thank you, everyone!
